Showering is a simple everyday routine which is pretty straightforward – you just get in the tub and do it. Nothing difficult, right? Well, according to experts, there are some mistakes we all make during showering that can seriously harm our health. Here are the 8 common mistakes we make when taking a shower:
1. You don’t change your towel of loofah
Your towel and loofah are ideal for bacterial growth, which is why you need to change them more often. You need to use your shower towel for a maximum of 3-4 times before changing it – to make sure that it’s completely clean, wash it with very hot water.
This will clean it nicely and absorb all the odors as well.
2. You exfoliate every day
Exfoliation is great for your skin, of course, but exfoliating every day will do more harm than good. The constant rubbing of your skin may make your skin oily and more prone to bacteria and dirt, so use your exfoliator only once a week once a week.
3. You wash your hair without combing it first
To avoid hair breakage, comb your hair before washing it. This will prevent hair entanglement and damage and keep your hair straight.
If your hair is oily, use a comb with wider teeth and apply a softening mask in the end, before rinsing your hair with water for a final time.
4. You wash your teeth and shower at the same time
Multitasking is great as long as you don’t shower and wash your teeth at the same time. According to dentists, teeth should be brushed for at least 2 minutes every day, which is not the case when you’re taking a shower simultaneously.
5. You shave your legs first
Many people shave their legs before taking a shower to save time, but experts suggest not shaving them at all if you’re in a race with time. If you want your legs to be soft and smooth, you should wait for at least 15 minutes so the warm water softens the hairs and opens up the pores.
6. You wash your hair every day
The more you wash your hair, the greasier it will be – it’s that simple. The scalp will try to restore the oil you’ve just washed off, which will lead to excess oil production. Wash your hair every 2-3 days so the natural oils get to the hair ends which will keep your hair healthy and shiny.
7. You’re showering with hot water
Imagine this – it’s freezing cold outside and taking a hot shower seems like the best thing in the world. But, there’s one problem – hot water can seriously harm your skin, especially if your skin is dry or you’re suffering from eczema. Stick to lukewarm water and your skin will thank you.
8. You’re too rough with the towel
Being too rough with the towel may destroy your follicles which will result in hair breakage and dry skin.
Just pat the towel on your skin lightly and avoid keeping your hair wrapped in a towel as well.
